ANNOUNCEMENT:
Update: 11 January 2021
Unfortunately, the SMAAF Board of Directors has had to make the difficult and sad decision to cancel the 2021 All-Class Reunion. So, that means our next official reunion will not be possible until the weekend of 8-10 April 2022. That said, if small groups want to gather “on their own” in Staunton to celebrate an event or milestone, you are welcome to do so but you must abide by the Commonwealth of Virginia and Mary Baldwin University implementation of COVID-19 spread prevention measures. Again, we regret having to make this decision and did consider the pros/cons of alternatives.
2 January 2021
Old boys! You may be wondering about the status of our 2021 All-Class Reunion plans. We are hoping that we will be able to meet in Staunton for our Reunion in April, but we also recognize that our plans may be affected again by the Covid-19 pandemic. As it stands now, we are ready to have our Reunion: all necessary planning is well underway, contracts are in place, speakers are lined up. That said, we have until February 15, 2021, to “pull the plug” on our plans if it appears at that time that our Reunion would be negatively affected by Covid-related restrictions. Rest assured that the Board of Directors will be monitoring this situation and will make the best decision we can when that time comes. We are working closely with our partners at Mary Baldwin University in this process, and our decision will be based on joint consideration of the factors in play, such as state regulations and restrictions, University policies, and the best interests of our membership. This year is an especially important one in the history of the SMAAF-VWIL partnership, as it marks the 25th anniversary of the establishment of the Virginia Women’s Institute for Leadership. Moreover, it also marks the 20th anniversary of the opening of the SMA-VWIL Museum & Archives. We sincerely hope that we will be able to gather in Staunton both to remember SMA’s past and to celebrate VWIL’s future. We will, though, make the best decision we can approximately six weeks from now.
A healthy and happy New Year to all of you!
George Mastroianni
President, SMAAF
